The region surrounding the temple is closely associated with the events described in the Ramayana. According to local legends, the dense forests around Malluru were once ruled by the demoness Shurpanaka, the sister of Ravana. It is believed that Lord Rama defeated the demon generals Khara and Dushana along with their army of 14,000 demons in this very forest, protecting the sages who were performing penance in the region. Because of these sacred associations, the area has long been considered a spiritually powerful place for meditation and worship. Historically, the temple gained prominence under several powerful South Indian dynasties. Archaeological and historical traditions indicate that the Satavahanas and the Kakatiya dynasty played a significant role in the development of the temple. The famous Kakatiya ruler Queen Rudrama Devi was known to be a great devotee of the deity. According to local legend, she was suffering from a serious illness and was miraculously cured after drinking water from the sacred Chintamani Jalapatham, a waterfall located near the temple. Since then, the waterfall has been considered sacred, and devotees believe that its waters possess healing properties. Later, the Vijayanagara Empire, especially during the reign of Sri Krishnadevaraya, is believed to have supported the temple by providing donations and ensuring the continuation of temple rituals according to the Vaikhanasa Agama tradition. Over centuries, the temple received patronage from various rulers and devotees, helping preserve its religious significance. One of the most extraordinary features of the Malluru Hemachala Narasimha Temple is the Swayambhu (self-manifested) idol of Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, which stands approximately 9.2 feet tall. Unlike most temple idols carved from stone, this idol has a flesh-like texture, particularly around the chest and abdominal region. Devotees believe that the idol feels soft to the touch and returns to its natural form even when gently pressed. Another unique and mysterious aspect of the temple is the sandalwood-scented fluid believed to flow from the deity’s navel, often referred to by devotees as the “bleeding navel phenomenon.” The priests apply sandalwood paste to this sacred area during daily rituals, and the paste is later distributed to devotees as prasadam, which many believe has healing and protective powers. The temple is approximately 130 km from Warangal and 90 km from Bhadrachalam.

🚌By Road (Most Recommended) : From Hyderabad: It is about 260–280 km away. Take the NH163 towards Warangal, then proceed via Mulugu and Eturunagaram. The drive takes 5–6 hours.

From Warangal: A 3-hour drive (130 km). Regular TSRTC buses run from Warangal to Eturunagaram or Mangapet. From Mangapet village, the temple is a 4 km drive into the forest.

From Bhadrachalam: A 2-hour drive (90 km). You can take a bus or taxi towards Manuguru and then head to Mangapet.

Local Transport: From the Mangapet/Malluru bus drop-off, you can hire an auto-rickshaw to reach the base of the hill.

🚉By Rail : Nearest Major Station: Warangal (WL). It is well-connected to all major Indian cities. From here, you can take a bus or private taxi.

Closest Station: Manuguru (BDCR) is about 40 km away, but transport options from here are less frequent than from Warangal.

🛩️By Air : Nearest Airport: Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) in Hyderabad, roughly 300 km away. You would need to complete the journey by train or car.
