In the late monsoon season of 1907, the city of Hyderabad was devastated by catastrophic flooding of the Musi River. The absolute devastation left thousands homeless and stagnant waters triggered severe, deadly outbreaks of plagues, malaria, and cholera. Amidst the mounting panic and loss of life, a prominent local community leader named Venkataswamy Mudhiraj envisioned a spiritual shield for the city. Believing that only divine intervention could curb the deadly epidemics, he proposed the installation of a powerful shrine dedicated to Goddess Mahankali—revered as the ultimate protector against disease, negativity, and sudden calamities.
