Shrinathji Temple

Shrinathji Temple is one of the most revered centers of the Pushtimarg tradition and holds immense spiritual importance for devotees of Lord Krishna. It is considered not just a place of worship but a living residence of the deity, where rituals are performed as daily service to the Lord.

The temple is also significant for preserving unique traditions of seva (devotional service), including specific timings for darshan, food offerings, and musical prayers. It attracts millions of devotees annually who come seeking spiritual blessings and divine connection with Shrinathji.

Shrinathji Temple at Nathdwara is one of the most important pilgrimage centers for followers of the Pushtimarg sect of Vaishnavism, founded by Vallabhacharya. The deity Shrinathji represents Lord Krishna in his child form lifting the Govardhan Hill, a symbol of divine protection and devotion.

The idol was originally worshipped at Govardhan near Mathura. During the 17th century, to protect the sacred idol from Mughal invasions under Aurangzeb, it was moved several times across Rajasthan. Eventually, in 1672, the idol was installed at Nathdwara, meaning “Gateway to Shrinathji,” under the guidance of Goswami priests.

Since then, Nathdwara has developed as a major spiritual town centered around temple rituals known as “Seva” and “Jhanki,” where the deity is worshipped like a living child with multiple daily ceremonial appearances.

Shrinathji Temple celebrates major Hindu festivals with great devotion and grandeur, especially Janmashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna. The temple is beautifully decorated, and thousands of devotees gather to witness special darshans and rituals.

Another major celebration is Annakut, held after Diwali, where a large variety of food offerings are arranged before the deity. Festivals like Holi, Sharad Purnima, and Diwali are also celebrated with traditional music, devotional singing, and elaborate temple rituals reflecting the rich Pushtimarg heritage.
