Baijnath Temple is the principal shrine of the historic Baijnath temple complex on the left bank of the Gomti River in Bageshwar district. Uttarakhand Tourism identifies the main shrine as a 12th-century temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in his Vaidyanath form. The temple complex is protected as an archaeological monument and is recognised for its early-medieval North Indian Nagara architecture.

Baijnath was historically associated with the Katyuri dynasty and the area was known as Kartikyapura when it served as a Katyuri capital. The surviving temples and sculptures along the Gomti preserve evidence of this period. The complex contains the main Shiva shrine together with 17 subsidiary temples and numerous carved stone images.
Local religious traditions connect Baijnath with the worship of Shiva as Vaidyanath, the divine physician. Stories concerning Shiva and Parvati and the origin of the temple belong to religious tradition and should be distinguished from the documented architectural and historical evidence.
Baijnath Temple is an important Shaiva pilgrimage site in the Kumaon region and is dedicated to Lord Shiva as Vaidyanath. Its location beside the Gomti River, association with the ancient Katyuri capital of Karttikayapura and long history of worship give it considerable religious and cultural importance.
The temple complex is also highly significant for its medieval stone architecture and sculpture. Its main shrine and seventeen subsidiary shrines form an important surviving group of early medieval temples in Uttarakhand. The site is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India and is included in Uttarakhand's Shiva Heritage Circuit.

Rail: Kathgodam Railway Station is the nearest major railway station generally used for reaching Baijnath. From Kathgodam, visitors can continue by road through the Kumaon hills using buses or taxis.
Air: Pantnagar Airport is the nearest major airport generally used for access to the Bageshwar–Baijnath region. The remaining journey is by road.

रेल मार्ग: बैजनाथ पहुँचने के लिए सामान्यतः उपयोग किया जाने वाला निकटतम प्रमुख रेलवे स्टेशन काठगोदाम रेलवे स्टेशन है। काठगोदाम से दर्शनार्थी बसों अथवा टैक्सियों द्वारा कुमाऊँ की पहाड़ियों से होकर आगे बढ़ सकते हैं।
