Temple Historyमंदिर का इतिहासఆలయ చరిత్ర

According to local tradition, the sacred image of the goddess was discovered after a severe flood carried it downstream and became lodged against a rock near Kalyasaur. Local people are said to have heard a divine voice instructing them to install the image at that location. The present temple therefore developed around the naturally sacred riverside site.

The original shrine stood on a rock formation in the Alaknanda River. Construction of the Srinagar Hydroelectric Project and the resulting reservoir required the temple to be relocated to a higher platform in 2013, while the sacred image was retained. The relocation became an important event in the modern history of the shrine, and Dhari Devi continues to attract pilgrims travelling through the Char Dham region.

Dhari Devi Temple is one of the most revered Shakti shrines in Uttarakhand and is traditionally regarded as the guardian deity of the Char Dham region. Goddess Dhari Devi is worshipped as a manifestation of Kali, and devotees visit the shrine to seek protection, strength and blessings. Its location beside the Alaknanda River gives the temple additional religious significance.

The temple is also notable for its unusual history of relocation in connection with the Srinagar Hydroelectric Project. The sacred image was moved from the original riverside location to a raised platform in 2013, while continuing worship at the site. The shrine remains an important pilgrimage stop on the route through the Garhwal Himalayas.
