Aboutमंदिर के बारे मेंఆలయం గురించి

Kalpeshwar Temple is a Shiva shrine in the Urgam Valley of Chamoli district and is the fifth and final temple of the Panch Kedar pilgrimage. Uttarakhand Tourism identifies it as the Panch Kedar shrine where Lord Shiva's matted hair, or jata, is traditionally worshipped. The temple stands at approximately 2,200 metres and is distinctive because it remains accessible throughout the year, unlike the other four Panch Kedar shrines that have seasonal winter closures. The official sources consulted do not establish a definite historical construction date or a historically verified founder.

Temple Historyमंदिर का इतिहासఆలయ చరిత్ర

The traditional history of Kalpeshwar is connected with the Panch Kedar legend. According to Hindu tradition, the Pandavas sought Lord Shiva after the Kurukshetra war. Shiva is believed to have taken the form of a bull and manifested at five Himalayan locations; his matted hair is traditionally associated with Kalpeshwar. This is a religious tradition and should not be presented as independently established historical fact.

Kalpeshwar is also associated with the tradition of Sage Durvasa's meditation in the area. The temple itself is situated in a natural cave-like setting, with a natural rock formation worshipped as Shiva's jata. These religious traditions, together with its location in the Urgam Valley and its year-round accessibility, give Kalpeshwar a distinctive place in the Panch Kedar pilgrimage.

Kalpeshwar is the fifth and final shrine of the Panch Kedar pilgrimage and is specifically associated with the matted locks (jata) of Lord Shiva. It is also the only Panch Kedar temple that remains open throughout the year, making it distinct from Kedarnath, Tungnath, Rudranath and Madhyamaheshwar.

The shrine's natural cave setting and its location in the Urgam Valley further distinguish it from the larger built temple complexes of the region. The combination of its Panch Kedar identity, natural rock form of worship and year-round accessibility gives Kalpeshwar particular religious importance.
