Someshwar Temple holds religious importance as one of the key Shiva shrines within the historic Bhangarh Fort complex. It reflects the strong Shaivite traditions of the region and showcases how temples were central to fortified settlements in Rajasthan.

Temple Historyमंदिर का इतिहासఆలయ చరిత్ర
Someshwar Temple is an ancient Hindu shrine located inside the Bhangarh Fort complex in Alwar district of Rajasthan. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshipped here in the form of Someshwar, meaning “Lord of the Moon.” The temple is believed to have been built during the establishment of Bhangarh town in the late 16th to early 17th century under Rajput rule.
The temple forms part of a larger fortified settlement that includes palaces, bazaars, and several other temples. Historical records suggest that Bhangarh was developed as a planned township by Rajput rulers, and Someshwar Temple served as an important spiritual center for residents of the region. Its location within the fort reflects the traditional integration of religion into urban planning in Rajput architecture.
Over time, the entire Bhangarh settlement was abandoned, and the temple area became part of ruins preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India. Despite the surrounding myths and legends associated with the fort, Someshwar Temple continues to attract visitors for its historical and architectural significance.

Maha Shivaratri is the most important festival celebrated at Someshwar Temple with special prayers, Rudrabhishek rituals, and chanting of Shiva mantras throughout the night. Devotees from nearby villages visit the temple during this time to offer milk, water, and bilva leaves to the Shivling.
Shravan month (July–August) is also significant, when devotees observe Monday fasts and perform special pujas. Despite being part of a ruined fort area, the temple retains religious importance among local worshippers who continue traditional Shiva worship rituals.
